When you’re relocating, you might want to consider how safe certain cities or neighborhoods are. This is an important factor because you want to know that where you’re living will be safe for you and your family, especially if you have children. You may particularly want to know you’re moving to a safe area if you’re planning on buying a house and living there long-term.
Neighborhood Scout is a great online tool for quickly checking reported safety levels and crime statistics for a particular area. You just enter the name of a city or state, a specific ZIP code, or even a specific address. So, let’s look at some of the US towns and cities that they report to be the safest to live in across different states.
- Franklin, MA
A lot of Massachusetts cities made the list of Neighborhood Scout’s 100 safest places, including the one at the top of the list, Franklin. It’s located around 40 miles from Boston and records a crime rate of just 1.9 per 1,000 residents.
- Long Beach, NY
If you want to live nearby New York City but also want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city, as well as the higher crime rates, then Long Beach is a great option. Long Beach, NY was listed second out of the 100 safest cities, and it’s the perfect place for anyone who loves the beach and the boardwalk.
- Zionsville, IN
Fourth on the list was Zionsville, Indiana. This suburban town is located just outside of Indianapolis, so it’s a great place to live if you want the convenience of traveling into the city combined with the relative peace and quiet (and safety) of the suburbs.
- 7. Bergenfield, NJ
The safest place to live on the other side of the Hudson River is reportedly Bergenfield, NJ. With a crime rate of just 3.4 per 1,000 residents, this borough is a nice and safe place to live while still being able to easily travel into NYC.
- Muskego, WI
For a slice of life on the Great Lakes, the safest place to live is Muskego, Wisconsin, listed eighth on the list with a crime rate of 3.5 per 1,000 residents. The city is located close to Milwaukee and the banks of Lake Michigan.
- 55. Holly Springs, NC
And the safest place to live in North Carolina is Holly Springs according to Neighborhood Scout. While it only came in 55th on the list, it still has a low crime rate of 7.4 per 1,000 residents. It’s located close to Raleigh and less than 100 miles from Winston Salem.
